Mahā Prajñā

A Theravada Buddhist society rooted in the Buddha's original teachings, dedicated to wisdom, compassion, and harmony for all people across Malaysia and beyond.

ABOUT US

A Living Community
of the Dharma

Mahā Prajñā Buddhist Society is a Theravada Buddhist community in Selangor, Malaysia, dedicated to preserving and sharing the authentic teachings of the Buddha, not as distant doctrine, but as a living path that can be walked by anyone, in everyday life.

We draw our spiritual lineage from the Theravada tradition, one of the world's oldest, continuous Buddhist schools, preserving the Pāli Canon and the original discourses of the Buddha. Our practice is grounded in the Threefold Training of wisdom (Prajñā), ethical conduct (Śīla), and meditation (Samādhi).

"Mahā Prajñā — Great Wisdom — is not a place you arrive at. It is the quality of attention you bring to every moment of this life."

OUR PURPOSE

Mission and Guiding Objectives

Everything we do flows from these five principles, shaping how we teach, serve, and walk alongside our community.

01

Wisdom · Education

To promote learning, deepen knowledge, and encourage the practice and understanding of the Buddha's teachings for the well-being of all.

We are committed to creating accessible, rigorous, and inspiring opportunities for study and practice, from beginner's meditation and sutta discussions to advanced contemplative training. Our aim is not mere intellectual knowledge, but the kind of deep understanding the Buddha called Prajñā: wisdom that transforms how we see and relate to our own experience.

02

Culture · Heritage

To promote cultural and educational activities related to Buddhism.

Buddhism carries a rich treasury of art, language, music, and tradition. We celebrate and preserve this heritage through Dhamma school education, Buddhist festivals, cultural programmes, and the study of Pāli, the language of the original teachings. Living culture keeps the Dhamma alive across generations.

03

Compassion · Service

To encourage charitable activities that foster compassion and care for the wider community.

Karuṇā — compassion — is not a passive sentiment. It is expressed through action: in welfare work, charitable giving, visiting the sick, and supporting those in need. We actively organise and encourage service activities as a direct expression of the Dhamma in daily life, understanding that every act of genuine care is itself a form of practice.

04

Friendship · Goodwill

To strengthen friendship and goodwill among our community.

The Buddha taught that noble friendship (kalyanamittata) is not half the holy life, it is the whole of it. We nurture genuine bonds of friendship within our community through shared practice, communal meals, celebrations, and the simple joy of walking the path together. A community of goodwill is itself a refuge.

05

Harmony · Malaysia

To promote understanding, cooperation, and harmony regardless of races and religions in Malaysia.

HOW WE LIVE THE DHAMMA

Three Pillars of Our Path

Prajñā · Wisdom

Learning & Insight

We cultivate the kind of wisdom that does not merely accumulate information, but transforms the heart, seeing impermanence, suffering, and non-self with clarity and equanimity.

Karuṇā · Compassion

Service & Loving-Kindness

We cultivate boundless loving-kindness — extending care not just to our own community, but to all sentient beings.

Saṅgha · Community

Fellowship & Harmony

We believe that genuine community, built on friendship and mutual respect, is itself one of the three great refuges of the Buddha's teaching.
